Voting:

The ABA Candidate presentations and electronic voting (approved by the MoE) will commence on May 4th, 2026 at 1 p.m. and continue until May 8th, 2026 at 1 p.m.
The link to access voting will be sent to the ABA Community on May 4th 2026.
Details about the election process and voting platform will be shared in due course.
Please ensure that the school has your correct email address and personal information and you have met all your obligations to the school.
The successful candidates will be announced after Ministry approvals are received.

Nomination Eligibility Criteria:

There will be 3 positions open on the ABA Board of Directors for the board term 2026/27 - 2027/28.

Nomination forms filled by members of the ABA Association should fulfil the following eligibility criteria:

Be a member of the ABA Association, and only one member per family is eligible to stand for Board elections.
Be a parent or legal guardian of a child currently enrolled in ABA for the duration of their term.
Hold a university degree (BA/BS) or the equivalent thereof as per Ministry of Education requirements.
Be in good financial standing with the school: having no outstanding payments to ABA.
Be willing to serve a full 2 year term.
Not be an employee of the School, an employee spouse, or a first-degree relative of an employee.
Not be a first-degree relative of a current Board Director.
Not hold a diplomatic passport in adherence to the current laws of the Sultanate of Oman.
Have no prior disqualification from holding any Board office.
Have no association with any other school that may demonstrate a conflict of interest.
Have an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a School Board.

● Directors who have served three consecutive terms (6 years) on the Board are not eligible for re-election/reappointment in the following term and must wait for one Board term before they can apply for a subsequent election/ appointment.

● First Degree relatives of current Board Directors are not eligible for election or appointment to the Board.

● Employees of the School, their spouse, and other first-degree relatives are not eligible for election or appointment to the Board.

● In adherence to the current laws of the Sultanate of Oman, persons who hold a diplomatic passport are not eligible for election to the Board.

The Board consists of voting and non-voting Directors. In accordance with the Ministry of Education’s Ministerial Decision No. (191/2009) and the ABA By-Laws, the Board is composed of the following directors:

● A minimum of five (5) and a maximum of ten (10) elected directors from the ABA Association. The number of Directors for an election is announced by the Board prior to the election based on the School’s needs in the coming years.

● The Head of School

● Two appointed qualified and experienced British nationals appointed by the British Embassy.

● The British Embassy Representative

● Up to two voting Directors may be co-opted by an anonymous majority vote of the elected Directors with the consultation of the Head of School.

9. What qualities make a good ABA Board Director?

● Passionately supportive of ABA’s MVV.

● Acting in the best interest of ABA.

● Supporting in a positive manner all actions taken by the Board of Directors, even when he/ she is in a minority position on such actions.

● Observing Board procedures and displaying courteous conduct in all Board, committee, and task force meetings.

● Representing ABA in a positive and supportive manner at all times and in all places.

10. What is expected of ABA Board Directors?

● Upholding ABA’s MVV.

● Respecting the confidentiality of all Board meetings/deliberations.

● Welcoming divergent viewpoints and being a part of generative discussions.

● Attending all meetings of the Board and the Committees on which he/she serves, having read the agenda and all background material relevant to the topics at hand.

● Working collaboratively with and respecting the opinions of colleagues who serve on the ABA Board and leaving personal prejudices out of all Board discussions.

● If serving on a committee or task force, he/she will fulfill their extra responsibilities and obligations to the Board.

● Refraining from intruding on administrative issues that are the responsibility of the Head of the school.

● Avoiding conflicts of interest between their position as a Director and their personal life.

● Invested in and supportive of the Head of School’s success.

11. Roles and responsibilities of the Board

The Board is the governing body of the Association and is the ultimate authority of the School. The law confers upon the Board to effectively govern the school. The Board is governed in their duties and responsibilities by the laws of the Sultanate of Oman , the ABA By-Laws and the ABA Policy Manual.

The Board acts collectively as a Body. Individual directors exercise authority only by virtue of specific delegation granted collectively by the Board and are not individually liable for the Board’s actions.

The Board’s duties as part of its daily operations are:

● Electing its Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and Committee Chairs

● Maintaining relationships with Embassies and other government agencies

● Ensuring the School is authorised and accredited by the relevant organisations on a regular basis

● Ensuring that the School is governed in an ethical and legal manner

● Ensuring the financial sustainability of the School in perpetuity

● Determining the strategic direction of the School

● Appointing evaluating, supporting and, if needed, terminating the Head of School contract (all other staff to be appointed and terminated by the Head of School)

● Overseeing the School’s finances, including but not limited to, setting of the annual budget

● Soliciting donations

● Establishment of overall compensation for the School's employees and compensation for the Head of School

● Setting tuition and enrollment fees for the School

● Renewing and building facilities

● Establishing and revising of School policies with responsibility for operations policies delegated to the purview of the Head of School

● Consulting on the appointment of the High, Middle and Elementary Principals for the School.
