We are a Middle School where everyone finds success!

At our Middle School, Grades 6 to 8 or MYP 1 to 3, we teach our students how to learn, how to advocate for themselves and their learning as well as support their success during a time in which they are developing more rapidly than any stage other than the first two years of life. Small class sizes. Committed and talented teachers. Strong academics. The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. Extensive co-curricular options. Inquiry-based learning. A holistic and balanced approach.

The MYP is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. Students who complete the 5-year MYP are well-prepared to undertake the IB Diploma Programme (DP).

The MYP curriculum framework comprises eight subject groups, providing a broad and balanced education for early adolescents.

In the final year of the programme, optional MYP eAssessment provides IB-validated grades based on examinations and course work.  Students who undertake external assessment are eligible for MYP course results and the IB MYP Certificate.

MYP eAssessment is purposely designed to reflect the flexible curriculum framework in the MYP. Its flexible nature means it effectively suits the wide variety of school contexts globally. As an assessment for learning tool, it informs a student’s next steps in their education journey, builds their ability to apply their thinking to new situations, stimulates their learning of skills, and matches the three types of performances that suit a 21st century adolescent mind:

As an assessment of learning tool, it functions as a summative assessment to complete a middle school career with externally IB validated results. This is executed through a series of world-leading, innovative, digital assessments that both ensure a high standard of academically rigour, and inform learning, teaching and creative teacher professionalism.

ABA Oman International School

is the only INTERNATIONAL IB World Continuum School in Oman

ABA is the leading international school in Muscat to offer three levels of the International Baccalaureate program - the IB Primary Years  (PYP), the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programmes (DP) - the gold standard in University preparation.

Since 2004, ABA had been officially authorized to offer the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). The MYP teaches our students to think critically and ask fundamental questions. The learning environment challenges them to strive for their personal best and develop a zest for learning. Our MYP graduates leave the program as confident, capable learners who relish the process of discovery, thrive in interdisciplinary studies, and show commitment to improving our global classroom.

At ABA, the MYP is both an approach to learning as well as a rigorous academic programme. Developed specifically for Grades 6 to 10, the MYP does more than teach facts, figures, and formulas; it shows students how their interests and inquiries shape the process of their learning and how what they learn explains the world around them, the world they are eager to understand and eager to enjoy.

The MYP centres on the philosophy that students learn their best when their natural curiosity guides them. It follows that students in an IB classroom are prompted to ask challenging questions that will direct their research and learning, in addition to showing them the value of being a stakeholder in their own education. This inquiry-based approach fits in well at the Middle School level, particularly as students are coming into an age where they become more aware of society and how everything fits together, including their current roles and the roles they will carve out for themselves over the course of their lives.

The MYP Programme Model

The student is at the centre of the programme, followed by the features that help students develop understanding (Learner Profile, Approaches to Teaching, Approaches to Learning, Global Contexts, Concepts). The second ring describes some important outcomes of the programme (Action, Service, Community Project, Personal Project). The third ring describes the MYP’s broad and balanced curriculum.

All of these components cultivate a desire to be a lifelong learner which paves the way for our children to find success in High School and on their journeys beyond ABA.
